Local Election Pledge Campaign

Turning Local Elections into a Climate Action Opportunity

The aim of this project is to secure formal commitments from candidates in the May 2026 local elections to take specific climate actions if elected. This is a fantastic opportunity in light of the planned local government re-organisation.

We are building a coalition of community groups to amplify the campaign and create public momentum. This will encourage as many people as possible to support this campaign in the lead-up to the elections in May.

The project team have set a target of 66% of candidates across all parties publicly to sign the pledge before the election.

In order to achieve this, we are targeting 25 community groups to actively engage in campaigning and 40 community groups to endorse the pledge.

In terms of timeline, we are planning to activate our community network to start engaging candidates from mid-March 2026.
